Harry Kane, a striker for Bayern Munich, has spoken out over the Bavarians’ heartbreaking 4-1 Champions League loss to Barcelona.
Barcelona was playing well when they hosted Bayern Munich at the Estadi Olimpic, easily defeating them 4-1 even though the Bavarians had more than 60% of the possession during the match. Before Kane tied the score for Vincent Kompany’s team, Barcelona captain Raphinha gave the home team the lead early on. But Hansi Flick’s team scored two more goals before halftime, and Bayern was unable to build on the goal.
Bayern took charge of the game in the second half, but despite launching several attempts against Barcelona’s incredibly high defensive line, they were unable to threaten Inaki Pena’s goal. In the 56th minute, Raphinha scored his third goal of the evening, condemning Bayern to their second consecutive Champions League defeat. Kane has since discussed the dismal outcome in Catalonia.
Kane told the media: “We didn’t get off to a fantastic start after giving up three goals away from home in the first half. We looked quite dangerous for a while in the first half, but Barcelona played brilliantly, and we didn’t take advantage of our superiority. Then we were disciplined during transitions.
We must leave and take this lesson to heart. We may have gotten a little carried away trying to play the final ball too soon, but I believe there was a time when we looked dangerous. We could have created greater opportunities if we had used more possession rather than hurrying it. However, there’s no need to freak out; the goal is to learn and improve for the future.
When they play Benfica, their next European opponent, at the Allianz Arena on November 6, Der Rekordmeister, who are now 23rd in the Champions League league stage table, will look to move up the rankings.
