Alan Shearer, a legend of the Three Lions, has advised England manager Thomas Tuchel to watch Liverpool’s Curtis Jones.
In an attempt to lead England to the 2026 World Cup, Tuchel agreed to an 18-month contract to take over the national squad beginning in 2025. As Tuchel takes advantage of his time off and recovers before taking over as Three Lions manager, Lee Carsley will continue to serve as the team’s interim manager until the end of this year.
In order to choose his ideal team from the start, Tuchel is probably going to watch England players over the coming months. Despite the fact that neither Gareth Southgate nor Carsley have capped the midfielder, former England great Shearer has now said that Jones of Liverpool is one of the players Tuchel shouldn’t “ignore” when he takes over.
Shearer told Betfair: “The really standout performer in Liverpool’s match against Chelsea was Curtis Jones, who was amazing. If he maintains the form we saw last Sunday, he should definitely be considered for Thomas Tuchel’s England.
“Curtis’ performance was even more remarkable when you take into account that he hasn’t been a regular in that Liverpool team and that it was their first real test of the season. We stated that if they could pass it, then people would start to take them seriously in terms of them actually contending for the title.”
Since he wasn’t assigned starts until the beginning of October, Jones wasn’t a certain starter for Arne Slot at the beginning of the season. The 23-year-old has already started both of Liverpool’s Premier League games, though, and is probably going to be in the starting lineup when they play Arsenal on Sunday, October 27.
