Meeting with FIFA regarding the October 31 VAR kickoff in Accra

The Ghana Football Association and other pertinent officials will meet with the Federation Internationale de Football Associations (FIFA) to discuss the use of Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology in Ghana’s domestic competitions.

The whole FIFA VAR project team will be present at the two-day meeting, which is set for October 31 and November 1, 2024, in Accra.

Any Member Association (MA) looking to implement VAR technology must go through FIFA’s Implementation Assessment Approval Program (IAAP), which includes this crucial first step known as the VAR kick-off meeting.

On October 30, 2024, the FIFA delegation is scheduled to land in Ghana. Michael Bailey and Inokuchi Takaaki are important FIFA resource people who will offer their knowledge on VAR technology and protocols.

Emmanuel Aglago (VAR Instructor), Marian Mensah (Head of Legal Affairs), Francis Adu (Head of IT), Julius Emunah (Head of Competitions), Neil Armstrong-Mortagbe (Head of PR and Strategy), Christine Ziga (Chairperson of the Referees Committee), and Alex Kotey (Head of Referees and VAR Team Leader) are among the important individuals who will be led by the Association’s General Secretary Prosper Harisson Addo (Esq.).

The Association’s determination to improve the precision of refereeing calls and conform to international officiating standards is demonstrated by the move to introduce VAR to Ghanaian football. As the Association works to improve football in Ghana, this meeting is anticipated to clear the path for VAR to be successfully implemented in the sport.
