A Portuguese journalist claims that Ruben Amorim aspires to win titles at Manchester United “like Jose Mourinho, who is his idol.”
In an attempt to appoint Amorim as the replacement for the fired Erik ten Hag, United has informed Sporting that they are prepared to pay Amorim’s release clause.
Although the move would be “risky” for the 39-year-old, Amorim has led Sporting to two Portuguese league titles and two Portuguese League Cups. Amorim accepted the current Fenerbahce manager’s invitation to intern at Old Trafford while he was at United.
Amorim’s notice period concerns could ruin United’s hopes of appointing him before their match against Chelsea this weekend. On Wednesday, they take on Leicester in the EFL Cup.
