“This Is The Tank Protection Program”: Tank Davis Is Caught in the Crossfire Over Fighting Roach Jr.

Tim Bradley called Gervonta Davis a fake for going up against Lamont Roach Jr. Following Davis’ declaration that he will be facing Roach Jr. on December 14, he made these remarks. He recently defeated Frank Martin by knocking him out to keep the WBA Lightweight Title. Throughout his career in the lightweight class, Davis has been associated with a number of well-known athletes. If they had fought, Devin Haney would have been the undisputed lightweight champion. But Haney gave up his titles and increased his weight to 140 pounds. Having already advanced to that weight class to face Mario Barrios, Davis might have done the same to take on him.

Taking on Shakur Stevenson, the WBC Lightweight Champion, is comparable. Stevenson has been calling Davis to fight on a regular basis. On it, though, Davis’ team has expressed varying opinions. They have said in the past that since Shakur lacks commercial appeal, it is pointless to battle him. They have since recanted, saying that they would prefer to fight at the appropriate time.

Additionally, Davis might have faced Vasiliy Lomachenko. According to reports, Tank was negotiating to take on the Ukrainian. Egis Klimas, the Ukrainian fighter’s manager, did, however, clarify that his fighter has no desire to fight Davis. Even though it might be the case, Tank had before in his career been continuously associated with the Lomachenko bout. It was the height of Lomachenko’s dominance in the division. Davis, though, chose not to engage in that combat. There were rumors that he knew he was not the same boxer and that’s why he only wanted to face Loma today.

Tank and Teofimo Lopez Jr. have also been connected to a fight. Lopez was the Unified Lightweight Champion in the past. After that, he lost against George Kambosos Jr., and that’s when he made the decision to go up to 140 pounds. Currently holding the WBO Junior Welterweight Championship, Lopez has expressed his desire to face Davis. Nothing, though, suggests that a conflict will be started. Bradley was not impressed with Tank’s level of competition since Davis had selected another opponent who would go up to 135 pounds, identical to Hector Garcia and Leo Santa Cruz did.

“This is matchmaking, man.” Hear me out: Matchmaking may hide any fighter’s flaws. I will simply inform you all of that. It resembles the makeup that you two are wearing at the moment. Although you two appear attractive, Bernado [Osuna] and you are both quite unattractive. I’m going to give it my all for you guys.

“Observe, this is the program for protecting tanks. Guys from lower weight classes have been coming up to join Tank, and Tank looks amazing. It’s a deception. I will tell you immediately. Tank is a good fighter, in my opinion. Bradley remarked, “I don’t know how good he is, but based on the appearance and the matches he’s been having, the guy appears like a complete scammer.
