Ben Whittaker, a prospect at light-heavyweight, thinks he will soon challenge Dmitry Bivol or Artur Beterbiev for the world title.
Whittaker has emerged as one of the top prospects in the 175-pound weight class and has made an outstanding transition to the professional ranks. “The Surgeon” has wowed with his amazing abilities and will have the opportunity to demonstrate them on Saturday in Saudi Arabia on the undercard of the undefeated Beterbiev-Bivol bout.
The two most notable light heavyweight fighters of their generation, Beterbiev and Bivol, will square off on Saturday to determine who is the best of their generation and to become the first unchallenged 175-pound champion since Roy Jones Jr. in 1999.
While some may view Whittaker’s chance to compete on the undercard of the top two light heavyweights as a monumental occasion, he maintains that he would treat the bout like any other.
Whittaker told BoxingScene, “I’m not going to stand here and say I’m super excited; for me, it’s just another fight, another show.” “I believe you’ll start exaggerating the situation if you begin to overthink it. It’s just another fight for me, and fortunately, I’ve fought all around the world in my amateur career. For myself, I’m heading to the ring and packed my luggage in exactly that same manner.
Following his triumph, Whittaker, 27, will get the opportunity to observe both of the top competitors in his division up close. Whittaker might not take full advantage of this opportunity, though.
However, it will be beneficial to observe them up close. I could tell you I’m going to watch it, but in all honesty, my favorite thing to do after a fight is go home, eat, and play PlayStation. I will therefore be taking my PlayStation to Riyadh and most likely making the same decisions there.
Whittaker has defeated opponents in the past like a scalpel through butter, and many believe he will win more world titles. Whittaker would be delighted to face either Beterbiev or Bivol—assuming they are still in the running for the titles—and feels that a title shot is not too far off.
Whittaker remarked, “I’m not far at all really [from fighting Beterbiev and Bivol].” However, you should note that Beterbiev is 40 years old, and I am 27, therefore I have an advantage in this game. World champion is what I want to be by the time I’m thirty. That being said, if they are present, then who will it be if not? I want to be a global champion because of this.
Next, Whittaker was questioned about his prediction regarding Beterbiev and Bivol’s main match. ” However, it seems to me that they’ll either start off hesitantly or just start swinging. He’s also a younger fighter with impressive output and distance control, and he has never been injured. Therefore, I lean more toward Bivol, but overall, I think the battle for all the belts is fantastic; it hasn’t happened at this weight in a long time, so I’m excited”.
