Cole Palmer is described by Enzo Maresca as a “super humble guy” whose demeanor hasn’t altered since his sensational transfer to Chelsea.
Palmer became the first player in the history of the Premier League to score four goals in the first half of a match during Chelsea’s recent 4-2 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion. With this victory, the Blues closed the gap on leaders Liverpool to two points and closed the gap on Arsenal and Manchester City to just one point.
Palmer has known Maresca, the current Chelsea manager, for a very long time. When the Italian was in charge of Manchester City’s Under-23 team and later served as Pep Guardiola’s assistant, he collaborated closely with the England star. The manager has seen Palmer’s development and ascent to superstar status at Stamford Bridge, but he emphasized that the forward has refused to let fame alter him.
After the game, Maresca remarked to Cole, “I told him he scored four goals, but he could have scored two or three more.” It’s admirable that he still has ambition and hunger. Cole and I were teammates for a full season with Manchester City’s under-23 team many years ago. The finest thing he has is that three or four years ago, he was not the boy he is now. Thus, his goals, assists, and status as the Premier League’s best player don’t alter who he is. The most significant thing to me about him is that he is a straightforward and modest man.
He is a very good player, Marseca said. “Young football players today undergo rapid transformations. After one goal, they believe they have already achieved stardom. The most crucial factor is that Cole is a top player who consistently scores goals and provides assists. This implies that he most likely won’t change from who he is. He is a fantastic man, a special player, and a modest guy. He doesn’t have to brag about his abilities to others.
Palmer’s move to Chelsea last summer after leaving Manchester City was the catalyst for his breakthrough. He was recognized with the PFA’s Young Player of the Year award, a prestigious accolade, for his exceptional efforts during the 2023–24 season. Due to his increasing popularity, Palmer was also selected for the England national team at Euro 2024, where he scored in the championship match against Spain.
Palmer will play a key role in Chelsea’s next games as they attempt to continue their winning ways. On Thursday, the Blues will host Gent, a team from Belgium, in the Conference League. After that, on October 6, they will play their next Premier League match at Stamford Bridge against Nottingham Forest.
