The University of Ghana Stadium will become the new home field for the Accra Lions after the Accra Sports Stadium was abruptly closed.
The Accra Sports Stadium was closed by the National Sports Authority for maintenance in response to complaints about the condition of the field.
It is also being considered as a possible location for Ghana’s upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match, which is scheduled for October versus Sudan.
This comes after the Baba Yara Sports Stadium was ruled unfit to host category three games by the Confederation of African Football, which revoked its permit to host the Black Stars match there.
Now, until the NSA finishes construction on the Accra Sports Stadium, Accra Lions and Legon Cities will share the University of Ghana Stadium.
Accra Lions had chosen the WAFA Park as a backup home site prior to the season, however Legon will be the preferred option due to the stadium’s unavailability.
The FA Cup champions Nsoatreman FC will be the Accra Lions’ next home opponent on Friday, September 27, 2024.
