The Barcelona great, Andres Iniesta, has declared his retirement from football and vehemently denied ever having backed Real Madrid.
This Monday, Iniesta announced his retirement from sports, capping a trophy-filled career that made him a legend at Barcelona. Journalist Tomas Roncero from Spain has since asserted that Iniesta may have joined Real Madrid in 2006 and that talks regarding a pre-contract deal had occurred while he was playing at Camp Nou.
Roncero also asserted that Iniesta was raised as a supporter of Barcelona’s enduring enemies, a charge that the legendary midfield player has now sharply refuted. He has asserted that the journalist is, in essence, incorrect.
“There have been untrue rumors spread, such as the one that I signed pre-contracts with Real Madrid,” Iniesta revealed to AS. Give him time to move on.
When asked if he supported the team, he said, “No, definitely not.”
Though it’s unclear if Iniesta intends to pursue teaching now that he’s retired, he will be happy to have dispelled rumors that he once fancied donning white instead of red and blue.
