All employees who join the union strike will be fired – GIHOC MD

Managing Director of GIHOC Distillery, Mr. Maxwell Kofi Jumah, has strongly warned employees not to take part in the planned trade union strike.

Kofi Jumah, in an interview with Oyerepa FM on Tuesday, October 8, candidly stated that he would sack the company’s workers if they joined the union strike.
According to him, the reason for the union strike has nothing to do with GIHOC and he does not encourage employees to participate in industrial action.
He said that the reason for the industrial action is a national issue and not the concern of GIHOC, so workers should refrain from striking.
“I hope that all GIHOC officials will listen.
If you want, don’t come to work.
If you join the strike, I will sack you.
If you join the strike, you will receive your salary from the trade union.
Don’t we have labour laws in this country?
’ If someone has not slept well and comes to say something, follow them.
Follow them and see if you like.

We, GIHOC, are smart people and we should not waste time,” he stressed.
The 4,444 members of the union decided to continue with the nationwide strike on October 10, despite President Akufo-Addo’s request at their October 4 meeting to be given time to address their concerns.
Union spokesman Joshua Ansah said in Accra on October 7 that they had no intention of backing down from the plan.
The union meeting was held behind closed doors.
But the leadership insisted that the strike would continue on October 10 as announced.
According to Joshua Ansah, the strike will take place if the government does not put a stop to illegal mining.
“We spoke and said if nothing is done there will be a national strike by October 10.
” “Our strike remains unchanged.
We believe that the government proposal does not adequately address our demands.
Hence, the strike notice remains unchanged.
The President has discussed the issue with us and our demand is that if nothing happens, we can continue with the strike as per what we and the President have told us,” he said.
