Ghana has taken a major step forward in its digitalisation efforts with the launch of CitizenApp, a digital platform that will unify all digitised public services.
The app is aimed at simplifying interactions between government and its citizens and was launched on Monday by the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, in the presence of representatives from various government agencies, in Accra.
CitizenApp is part of the government’s ongoing commitment to improve public service delivery through digital innovation.
During the introduction, Dr. Bawumia, who heads the government’s digital transformation initiative, said the app is a “bold leap” for the country.
“CitizenApp is a comprehensive digital platform designed to centralise and improve interactions between government and its citizens,” said Dr. Bawumia.
“With this integrated and user-friendly platform, we will consolidate public services, improving efficiency, accessibility and convenience for all citizens and residents of Ghana.
” The app offers a wide range of services allowing users to pay utility bills, settle local assembly fees, get a digital address, book long distance transport and even update personal details such as name changes after marriage, all from their mobile phones.
A key feature of the CitizenApp is data interoperability, allowing seamless communication between government agencies.
Dr. Bawumia explained that the system will reduce bureaucracy and increase the speed and quality of public services by eliminating repetitive paperwork.
“Through the CitizenApp data interoperability system, we are building a digital framework that connects all government agencies and allows seamless data flow between them.
This will simplify data sharing between government agencies and make government services more efficient,” he said.
The CitizenApp is designed to serve Ghanaians from the moment they are born and throughout their life.
Dr. Bawumia noted that parents can now apply for birth certificates through the app without having to go through multiple administrative procedures.
“From the moment their child is born, parents can now easily apply for a birth certificate without having to make multiple visits to authorities.
The digital system speeds up the process and gives parents more time to focus on their newborn, rather than being bogged down in paperwork.
” He said the app also supports children throughout their lives by providing access to services such as passport applications, job searches and more.
