Despite a rocky start to the qualifiers, former Ghana coach Charles Akonnor is optimistic that the Black Stars would make it to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Ghana began the campaign with a depressing 1-0 loss at Baba Yara Stadium against Angola. They then drew 1-1 with Niger to finish third in Group F with just one point.

“Getting qualified shouldn’t be a challenge. We need to perform well in the actual competition, but I won’t be shocked if they don’t qualify,” Akonnor told Graphic Sports.

In an important doubleheader, the Black Stars will play Sudan. The first leg will take place on October 10 at Accra Sports Stadium, while the second game will take place on October 14 at Martyrs of February Stadium in Libya.

The team anticipates that the remaining players will join for training sessions to get ready for the forthcoming games when camp opens with 11 players. Morocco will host the AFCON in 2025
