Dominik Szoboszlai explains why Liverpool is adjusting to a “different style of football” in the absence of Jurgen Klopp and why Arne Slot’s class of 2024–2025 is still a work in progress.

Dominik Szoboszlai has provided an explanation of Arne Slot’s new strategies and how Liverpool is adjusting to a new playing philosophy this year.

Diogo Jota and Mohamed Salah goals helped Liverpool defeat Ipswich Town 2-0 on Saturday to start the new campaign. The Reds’ effort in the first half was not convincing, therefore they had a rough start. But they raised their game after the break, scoring twice in short succession to secure their first victory under Arne Slot.

Szoboszlai, who started the game as the starting number ten, talked candidly about Slot’s strategies and how the group is adjusting to a new way of playing under the Dutch manager. He went on to say that the players are gradually getting used to the adjustments and that Slot’s men are still a work in progress.

In an interview with the team’s official website following the game, the Hungarian stated, “We used one No. 6 and two No. 8 players, with one of the No. 8 players falling as a No. 6. So, we played a little differently. We now had three players: a No. 6, a No. 8, and a No. 10. I played the No. 10.

“Yes, we are happy about the three points,” he continued. We’ve discovered that we ought to be prepared from the start. However, we also responded well when we came out in the second half, scoring two goals in quick succession, one with Jots and one with Mo. Thus, while we are glad to receive the three points, we still need to gain some knowledge.”

The Merseyside team’s next game of the 2024–25 season will take place at Anfield on August 25 when they play Brentford.
