Real Madrid will miss retiring legend Toni Kroos, the manager Carlo Ancelotti said, adding that the German midfielder is “impossible” to replace.
After winning the Champions League, Los Blancos legend Kroos made the decision to put up his boots at the conclusion of the 2023–24 campaign. But the game that ended his career as a professional football player was the quarterfinal of Euro 2024 between Germany and Spain, in which La Roja won 2-1.
Manager Carlo Ancelotti acknowledged that the club will miss having the German in the locker room ahead of the 2024–25 campaign, but he also said it would be “impossible” to find a successor. Additionally, the Italian manager restated the club’s policy of not adding any players during the current summer transfer window.
The 65-year-old mentioned Kroos in his pre-game press conference, saying, “The first game went well, we will always miss Kroos, he was a special player.” It is not feasible to find another one; we must adjust.”
“The squad is closed; we must wait until the market closes,” he continued. We believe Alaba will make a full recovery. We also have several young, talented players. With Joan’s injuries, we have been unlucky. Jacobo and Asencio are capable of helping.”
Midway through the new season, the defending European and Spanish champions defeated Atalanta to win the UEFA Super Cup. They will play Mallorca in their La Liga opener on Sunday.
