Asante Kotoko has finalized the signing of Nigerian attacker Wisdom Fernando on a three-year contract.
The former Akwa United player has been brought in to take Bernard Somuah’s place, as the latter has been loaned out to Celta Fortuna in Spain.
On Sunday, August 25, 2024, the last day of the transfer window, Fernando’s registration was completed.
He will report to the Porcupine Warriors’ pre-season base at Cape Coast, where they will prepare for the next campaign.
After his contract with Akwa expired and his loan term at Sporting Lagos ended after the 2023–24 season, the 22-year-old winger joins Kotoko on a free transfer.
In 76 games over seven seasons with Akwa and Sporting in the Nigerian Professional Football League, Fernando has seven goals and eight assists.
With Akwa, he won the Nigeria Premier Football League in the 2020–21 season; his outstanding play was a major factor in the victory.
After Guinean goalkeeper Mohamed Camara, Sudanese players Esmat Abdulhamid and Abdoel Rahman Yoouef Yagoub, and Congolese defender Samba O’Neil, Fernando becomes the sixth foreign player to sign for the Ghanaian powerhouses this transfer window.
