Laryea Kingston, the former head coach of Ghana U-17, has said that he resigned because of a “unhealthy environment” in coaching.
His departure came after the Black Starlets lost in the semifinals of the WAFU B U-17 competition, which was held in Accra earlier this year, and were unable to advance to the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations.
Given the strong football his squad had played before the WAFU competition in Ghana, many were taken aback by his choice to depart. He has now spoken out about his decision to step down as head coach of Ghana U-17.
“I don’t believe there is a runaway. This is a classic illustration of why you should work hard at all times, not just when people are looking. The emails began to come in as soon as I resigned,” he said to the sports media.
“The surroundings wasn’t beneficial for me so that’s another reason why I left.”
Following his resignation, Kingston took a new job in the United States as head coach at RPS Academies, where he is excited to develop future players.
