Asante Kotoko has declared their withdrawal from the Capital City Africa Cup, which was supposed to be held on October 12, 2024, in Washington, D.C.
The club stated that their players and technical team were unable to obtain the required travel paperwork in time, and that visa issues were the primary factor in their decision.
The club released an official statement expressing disappointment with the result: “The necessary visas for our full squad and technical team have unfortunately not been secured in time, despite ongoing discussions with the event organizers and the expectation that the visa challenges faced by our contingent would be resolved by Thursday evening, October 10, 2024. The club has decided that we cannot continue with our participation in this year’s game in light of these obstacles.”
Kotoko has been assiduously collaborating with all concerned parties to arrive at a resolution. The club stated that although they remained professional the entire time, they were ultimately forced to withdraw due to uncontrollable circumstances.
The announcement went on to say that the club’s decision is a reflection of its dedication to “operating under conditions that uphold our standards and values.”
Although the announcement may disappoint Kotoko supporters, the team is still focused on its domestic goals. On October 13, the first group of seven players and technical personnel who are presently in the US are scheduled to return to Ghana. Kotoko intends to focus their attention on building on their strong start in the Ghana Premier League after they return.
After five games, Kotoko leads the league and has an undefeated record.
