Today, the Cocoa Carriers Association will go on an indefinite strike.

In response to concerns over their terms of service, the leadership of the Cocoa Carriers Association has directed its members at the Cocoa Marketing Company Limited depots in Tema, Takoradi, and Kumasi to begin an indefinite sit-down strike on Monday, October 7, 2024.

Members of the Association went on a similar walkout in 2022, calling for better pay and working conditions.

During the last strike, numerous warehouses owned by Cocoa Marketing Company Limited left thousands of sacks of cocoa beans unattended.

In an interview with Citi News on Sunday, Raymond Atanga Abobiga, the National Chairman of the Cocoa Carriers Association, gave the order, advising every member to actively engage in the impending indefinite strike.

We’re going to report for duty, but we’ll meet at the gates of the several warehouses, and we won’t start working until our demands and requirements are met.

He said, “I want the directors and the management of COCBOD to know that we are fighting for a just cause and that we are not against an individual.”
