Real Madrid defender Dani Carvajal has confirmed that he ruptured his cruciate ligament during Saturday’s La Liga match against Villarreal and will undergo surgery.
The 32-year-old Carvajal suffered an unnatural right knee sprain while playing against Villarreal midfielder Eremy Pino and was carried off the pitch on a stretcher in added time.
“They have confirmed a severe cruciate ligament injury, which will require surgery and will keep me off the field for several months,” Carvajal said, posting a photo of himself inside the ambulance on Instagram.”I am looking forward to starting my recovery and coming back like a beast. Thank you all for your messages, I feel very loved,” he added. Manager Carlo Ancelotti is concerned about Carvajal’s injury and it represents another setback for a Spain team playing without goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, who suffered an abductor injury in last weekend’s win over Atletico Madrid.
