Revealed: Xavi Simons shamefully rejected Man Utd’s transfer request in favor of RB Leipzig’s return

Xavi Simons reportedly turned down Manchester United, opting instead to rejoin RB Leipzig.

Manager Erik ten Hag of United was busy during the summer transfer window filling up his team in a number of important positions. In their pursuit of both national and European success, the Red Devils added five new players: Joshua Zirkzee, Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt, and Manuel Ugarte.

But not every target was signed before the transfer window closed, and Fabrizio Romano has now disclosed that Simons escaped their grasp. Early in the summer, before Simons joined the Netherlands national squad for the Euro 2024 competition, United had asked about his availability. However, the midfield player decided to return to Leipzig, where he had enjoyed a successful loan stint in 2023–24, rather than transfer to England.

Simons struggled to make a name for himself at PSG after his excellent loan stint at PSV Eindhoven ended in the summer of 2023. Realizing that he needed consistent playing time to advance, PSG made the decision to loan him out once more, with Leipzig being the chosen destination.

Although Xavi Simons elected to return to Germany for the current season, his future remains the topic of great curiosity. Romano made a suggestion that the Dutch midfielder would be willing to taking on a new challenge as early as the summer of 2025, which might pique United’s attention once more—especially if Simons keeps up his impressive play in the Bundesliga. Ten Hag’s fondness for Dutch players suggests that the Red Devils might try another strategy if the chance presents itself.
