Zlatan Ibrahimovic is ‘the boss’ at AC Milan, he says, with the outspoken Swede trying to turn the Serie A powerhouses from’very low level’

Zlatan Ibrahimovic discussed his executive role at the Serie A powerhouses, stating that he is “the boss” at AC Milan.

RedBird Capital, the owners of Milan, declared in December of last year that Ibrahimovic had rejoined the team as a senior advisor. During his playing career, the Swede had two separate stints with the Rossoneri; currently, he is in charge of enhancing what he calls a “very low” scenario at the San Siro.

Since winning Serie A in 2021–2022, AC Milan has lost their position as the top team in Italy to Inter Milan. The Nerazzurri finished first in the previous campaign and advanced to the 2023 Champions League final. After four games in 2024–25, Milan is now in 10th place in the standings, 19 points behind Inter in 2023–24. Ibrahimovic will therefore need to put in a lot of work to lead Milan back to the top, but he appears ready for the assignment.

When questioned about his role by Sky Sports Italia, the 42-year-old responded, via ESPN, “I am the boss and I am in charge; all the others work for me.” “The kittens appear when the lion leaves. The kittens vanish when the lion returns. There is a lot of discussion and a very low level, but all I can think about is working. I have been here from the beginning, but I had to go away for personal reasons.”

Ibrahimovic is happy with AC Milan’s business after the team had a successful summer transfer window that saw the arrival of Tammy Abraham, Alvaro Morata, Youssouf Fofana, Strahinja Pavlovic, and Emerson Royal.

“It went exactly how we wanted, everything we hoped for and the absence of we got,” he stated. “The final individual was Abraham, to provide an extra reinforcement in attack.”

Ahead of this weekend’s Milan Derby, the USMNT star called for change. Tuesday’s 3-1 Champions League loss to Liverpool, which followed an unpleasant interview between Christian Pulisic and Thierry Henry, exposed the class divide between Milan and Europe’s best.
