After ‘liking’ Cristiano Ronaldo’s remarks on Erik ten Hag, Alejandro Garnacho was benched for the Manchester United match against Southampton.

Erik ten Hag, the manager of Manchester United, benched Alejandro Garnacho against Southampton, and he gave an explanation.

Marcus Rashford was chosen on the left of Ten Hag’s attack, and Garnacho was left off of United’s starting lineup against Southampton. Rumors circulated that he was left out because he approved of a social media post in which Cristiano Ronaldo criticized the Dutch manager; however, it has now been revealed that this is untrue.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Garnacho was benched for tactical reasons. In fact, this season, the Argentina international has only started one game—against Liverpool—and has only appeared on the bench in their first two games—against Fulham and Brighton.

With seven Premier League goals and four assists in his past campaign, the 20-year-old was one of United’s most productive players. In that span, he also scored three braces.

Midweek sees United begin their League Cup campaign against Barnsley, following their matchup with Southampton. Next weekend, they will play Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park in the Premier League.
