Mohammed Polo, a legend of Hearts of Oak, has backed calls to fire coach Aboubakar Ouattara, accusing the Ivorian of missing the composure and drive needed to guide the team.
Since his hiring at the beginning of the year, Ouattara has had difficulty. Hearts of Oak lost 1-0 to recently promoted Basake Holy Stars, which infuriated supporters. The coach was so devastated by the loss that extra security had to be put in place at the Accra Sports Stadium to keep him safe.
Polo, who has a long history with the team, voiced his worries, saying that Aboubakar Ouattara “lacks the spirit and control to lead Hearts of Oak.” Last season, he almost led the team to relegation. Because he cannot guarantee winning the Premier League this year, he should be fired.”
With a victory on the penultimate day of the season, Ouattara had staved off relegation the previous year, but his current form has many doubting his ability to turn the club’s fortunes around.
On Sunday in Kpando, Hearts of Oak will try to win their first game of the season against Heart of Lions.
