Coach Yussif Basigi of the Black Princesses: “The team will live up to expectations”

Coach Yussif Basigi of the Black Princesses is happy with his team’s readiness for the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup in Colombia.

The female Ghana U20 squad played a thrilling friendly against South Korea on Tuesday night at the Centro Deportivo Choquenza. a 2-1 loss in which the Black Princesses twice gave up goals from close range.

At the same location last week, Mexico held the team to a thrilling 0-0 draw.

Prior to the competition commencing on August 31, Basigi assessed his team’s advantages and disadvantages and thinks the girls would rise to the occasion.

“Compared to the last game, this one is better. You could tell they were a little tight against Mexico, but considering how the Koreans play, they performed admirably against South Korea, and we were able to hold them even if the penalty was a necessary part of the match, Yussif Basigi told the GFA media.

“Conceding multiple penalties is a worry but it gives us a fair idea of what to anticipate in the main competition because occasionally referees defend players a lot and so if you weren’t careful with a slight touch, they take a penalty against you,” he said.

“We are prepared for the competition. We have found everything we were searching for in the squad, and it has given us hope that they will perform to our standards.”
