Nathaniel Adjei, a defender from Ghana, gave his all during the match as FC Lorient defeated Red Star FC 2-1 in the French Ligue 2 on Friday to get back on track.
After a close loss to Amiens the previous week, the Orange boys went into this game expecting to win.
The lineup for the game against Red Star was altered by coach Olivier Pantaloni. Formose Mendy, Aiyegun Tosin, and Joel Mugisha were replaced by Nathaniel Adjei, Panos Katseris, and Sambou Soumano.
After Katseris gave the home team the lead just 12 minutes into the match, the Stade du Moustoir went crazy.
Red Star’s French forward Merwan Ifnaoui helped them quiet the rowdy home fans after just two minutes of halftime.
But FC Lorient only needed Soumano’s penalty kick in the 77th minute to win their third game of the year.
Adjei was chosen the second-best player on the field after goal scorer Katseris, despite missing the team’s preseason due to a bad ankle injury.
The forward, who was born in Greece, scored 8.3, while the runner-up, Adjei, scored 7.5.
The young Ghanaian player will be hoping that he can guarantee his spot in the team with his performance on the night.
Next Sunday, on Matchday 5, FC Lorient will host FC Metz at Stade Saint-Symphorien.
